Student honored by humane society
Lake Grove Elementary School student Nicole Mueller-Leduc must have read many Charlie Brown comic books to learn at such a young age that 'Happiness is a Warm Puppy.' She is responsible for making many puppies and kitties warm and happy.
Recently a representative from the Oregon Humane Society presented Mueller-Leduc with a plaque commemorating her dedication, compassion and hard work.
Mueller-Leduc spent her summer raising funds to benefit the Oregon Humane Society. Her campaign started at the Festival of the Arts, where she provided a jar collecting donations for homeless cats and dogs at her father's food booth. She raised $38 at that event.
She took her jar to the local pet store Healthy Pet and asked them to keep the jar on their counter for donations. The staff at Healthy Pet helped raise another $100. Mueller-Leduc held two garage sales and sold lollipops and lemonade, which generated another $37.
Mueller-Leduc's mission isn't complete. She is organizing a dog and cat food drive at her school this fall.
Residents can help the school get a jump-start on the collections. Mueller-Leduc will set up a booth at Healthy Pet this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can donate dog and cat food, treats, blankets and bath towels.
Healthy Pet is located at 16140 Boones Ferry Road in Lake Oswego.
