Troutdale offers classes
The Troutdale Recreation Department will offer a number of dance, acting and babysitting classes for children and teens in October, November and December.
All dance and acting classes will be held Thursdays, Nov. 2, through Dec. 14, in the Sam Cox Building, Glenn Otto Community Park, 1110 E. Historic Columbia River Highway. No classes will be held Thursday, Nov. 23. Cost is $36 per child.
Ballet and tap dance classes will be available for children ages 6 to 8 from 4 to 4:45 p.m. each week. Participants will learn the basics of ballet and the upbeat rhythms of tap. Ballet and tap shoes are recommended.
Jazz dance classes will be offered for children ages 6-12 from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. each week. Participants will learn the secrets of great kicks and turns as they practice new choreography. Jazz or ballet shoes are recommended.
Acting classes will be available for children ages 7-13 from 5:30 to 6:15 each week. Participants will play drama games, master stage directions, perform and write their own plays.
The American Red Cross will offer its 'When I'm In Charge' class for children ages 8-11 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the city conference building, 223 S. Buxton Ave.
Participants will learn about home safety, gun and Internet safety, sibling care and who to call in an emergency. Cost is $23 per child and includes phone and message notepads, an emergency number list, a fire escape plan and a course workbook.
