Libraries need the support of voters
- Portland Tribune - Opinion
An easy choice for voters to make in the Nov. 7 election is a yes vote on Measure 26-81: the Multnomah County Library levy.
The five-year operating levy will maintain library services and hours at their current levels and will allow the long-awaited New Columbia branch library to open in North Portland.
The levy isn't all that expensive. Property owners will pay just 13.5 cents more per $1,000 of assessed value than they pay for the existing five-year levy. That amounts to $2 a month for the owner of a home assessed at $200,000.
Without the levy, the Multnomah County library system would lose more than half of its funding and be forced to sharply curtail library hours and services. Voters should support Measure 26-81.
