Men's chorus to sing at Hood View

His Praise, a 20-voice men's chorus, will perform at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at Hood View Seventh-day Adventist Church, 26775 S.E. Kelso Road, Boring.

Finis Johnson will direct the group, and Carol Paulson will provide accompaniment.

A freewill offering will be taken.

Lutheran Church hosts hymn lyricist

John Ylvisaker, the Lutheran troubadour, will be at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 14500 S.E. Powell Blvd., Portland, Saturday and Sunday, Oct 21-22.

Ylvisaker has written a number of hymns, including 'I Was There to Hear Your Borning Cry,' which is played often at baptisms.

Carroll to speak on refuge at Smith

Bette Carroll, the director of youth and children's ministries at Smith Memorial Presbyterian Church, will be the guest preacher at the church at 8:30 and 11 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 22, 2420 N.E. Fairview Ave., Fairview.

The topic of the sermon, refuge, comes from Psalm 91.

Carroll has worked in youth ministry for 20 years. She is a graduate of what is now known as Multnomah Bible College and is taking graduate level courses at Multnomah Biblical Seminary.

All hallows Eve festival is Oct. 28

Gresham United Methodist Church, 620 N.W. Eighth St., will host an All hallows Eve Festival from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28.

Children are encouraged to come in costume and can enjoy crafts, games, storytelling, and trick-or-treating inside the church.

Admission is free, but families are asked to bring one bag of individually wrapped candy to for the trick-or-treating.

Eastrose sermon is on afterlife

'Beyond the Veil,' will be the topic of the sermon given at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, at Eastrose Fellowship Unitarian Universalist, 1133 N.E. 181st Ave., Gresham.

In honor of Day of the Dead, Eastrose members Arden Benson, Marc Bernard, Tori Conrad, Linda Irvine, Joey Ten Eyck and Brendan Tschuy will present their thoughts and beliefs about what happens after death.

Women's group to meet Nov. 3

The Eastmont Chapter of Church Women United will meet at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3, at Lynchwood Christian Church, 3815 S.E. 174th Ave., Portland.

A light lunch will be served following the meeting and program.

Church Women United is a racially, culturally and theologically inclusive Christian women's movement dedicated to promoting diversity, access to quality health care and economic justice.

Damascus church holds bazaar

Members of the women's ministries group at Damascus Assembly of God, 19070 S.E. Sunnyside Road, will host their seventh annual holiday bazaar from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 3-4.

Crafts, baked goods and other gift items will be available for sale, and participants will have the opportunity to win door prizes.

The event will also include a silent auction. Among other things, a stay at the Tolovana Inn at Cannon Beach will be up for grabs at the auction.

In addition, Toby Johnson, who does carvings with a chainsaw, will demonstrate his artwork.
