Pat Pellum Humphrey

May 2, 1932-Oct. 18, 2006

East County resident Pat Pellum Humphrey, 74, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, at his home.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 S.E. Mount Scott Blvd., Portland. A reception will follow at the Portland Moose Lodge, No. 1891, 16411 N.E. Halsey St., Portland.

Pat was born May 2, 1932, in Elizabethton, Tenn., to Clyde and Margi Humphrey. He moved to the Portland-metropolitan area in 1943.

In 1953, Pat joined the Army. He served as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division and was honorably discharged in 1955.

After his discharge, he lived in Oregon and Seattle. Pat did construction work and set up mobile homes.

Pat was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Mae. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Chronister and Vorita Rathman.

Survivors include his ex-wife, Joan Emerson of Des Moines, Wash.; sons, Brad Humphrey of Huntley, Ill., 'P.J.' Humphrey of Oregon City and Mike Humphrey of Portland; daughters, Robin Macready of Portland and Jolene Bratcher of Tukwila, Wash.; sisters, Dela Martin of Gresham, Martine Rathman of Sandy, Hazel Webb of Corbett and Melba Klinker of Portland; and 16 grandchildren.

David 'Dave'

Edward Evans

March 23, 1927-

Oct. 16, 2006

David 'Dave' Edward Evans, 79, a resident of Boring, died suddenly Monday, Oct. 16, at his home. A graveside service was held Friday, Oct. 20, at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland.

Dave was born March 23, 1927, in Fayette, Pa., to Otha and Gladys (Spergon) Evans. He was raised and educated in Uniontown, Pa. When he was 17 years old, he moved to Oregon, where he finished his education.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served as a clerk and firefighter with the 614th Air Engineer Squadron in Guam during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1945, having attained the rank of private first class.

After his discharge, Dave continued his education at Multnomah College and graduated as a machine shop technician.

During his career, he worked as a machinist.

On April 3, 1953, Dave married Darlene Craig. They traveled the West Coast for a number of years before settling in Oregon in 1975. Nine years ago, they moved to Boring to live with their sons.

Survivors include his wife of Boring; sons, David Evans and Don Evans of Boring, Whitman 'Bill' Evans of Portland, Gary Evans of Damascus and John Evans of Sellwood; daughter, Deanna Belcher of Hawaii; brothers, Kenneth Evans and Richard Evans of Clackamas, and Whitman Evans of Uniontown; sisters, Mary Lou Owens of Milwaukie and Kay Story of California; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Jean F. Henle

Jan. 17, 1919-Oct. 14, 2006

East County resident Jean F. Henle, 87, died Saturday, Oct. 14, in Portland. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at 4525 S.E. Stark St., Portland.

Jean was born Jan. 17, 1919, in Portland to Edwin and Lillian Downing. Her family moved to Astoria and then back to Portland. She graduated from Lincoln High School.

She moved to California, where she met Elmo Henle. They were married Jan. 5, 1946, in Chehalis, Wash.

During her career, she worked as a film splicer for 20th Century Fox and a sales clerk of Montgomery Ward. She retired in 1972.

She lived with her husband, who was an Army officer, in many states, as well as Japan and Germany.

Jean was a member of the American Contract Bridge League, where she earned a life master rating in 1972. She was a Boy Scout den mother, Girl Scout leader and Sunday school teacher.

Her husband preceded her in death on Aug. 26, 1981.

Survivors include her daughter, Judy Vaught of Portland; son, Michael Henle of Portland; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Carol Joan Wood

Happy Valley resident Carol Joan Wood, 67, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, at her home. A visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd., Gresham. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Willamette National Cemetery.

Carol was born April 7, 1939, in Beaverton to Clarence and Ester Satterlee. She attended Beaverton High School.

She married David Wood on March 3, 1963.

The couple settled in Happy Valley in 1963.

During her career, she worked as a cafeteria chef for Centennial School District for 14 years. She retired in 1974.

Her husband preceded her in death July 3, 2003. Brothers, Patrick, Don and Dale Satterlee; and a sister, Beverly, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include her sons, Richard Wood of Happy Valley and David Wood of Portland; daughter, Deborah Huff of Washougal, Wash.; brothers, Anthony Satterlee of Gresham and Clarence Satterlee of Hillsboro; sisters, Bonnie Prunk of Beaverton, Connie Lippert of Portland and Dixie Markham of Gresham; and two grandchildren.

Darlene Neva Stensland

May 8, 1938-Oct. 17, 2006

Former Gresham resident Darlene Neva Stensland, 68, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, in Longview, Wash. A celebration of life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at Gresham Eagles, 117 N.E. Roberts Ave.

Darlene was born May 8, 1938, in Craig, Alaska, to Nick and Jane (Skultka) Field. She was raised and educated in Alaska.

Darlene married Lawrence Stensland in April of 1958.

The couple moved to Boring in 1959, where Darlene was a homemaker.

Her husband preceded her in death in 1994.

Darlene is a past president of the Gresham Eagles and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4352 in Ketchikan, Alaska.

She moved to Cathlamet, Wash., in 2004.

Survivors include daughters, Danna Jacober of Mollala, Sherrie Fraly of Gresham, Mariah Cabrera of Portland, Angela Stensland of Cathlamet, Wash., Julia McGee of Anchorage, Alaska, and Vickie Inkster of Ketchikan, Alaska; brothers, Maurice Field of Port Angeles, Wash., T.G. 'Butch' Field of Cathlamet, Wash. and Richard 'Otto' Field of Shelton, Wash.; sisters, Sylvia Bahl of Everett, Wash., Carol Graham and Sally Chapin of Ketchikan, Alaska; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Liam Harold Belyea

May 19, 2005-Oct. 17, 2006

Gresham resident Liam Harold Belyea, 17 months, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, at his home.

Liam was born May 19, 2005, in Grants Pass, to Jason and Tiffany Belyea. The family soon relocated to Gresham.

Survivors include his parents; grandparents, Janice Belyea of Williams, James and Janna Schofield of California, brother, Aidan Belyea; and sister, Zoe Belyea, all of Gresham; uncles, Dan Belyea of Williams, Trevor Schofield of California; and aunt, Taylor Schofield of California.

Robert Ellsworth Serstock

Nov. 29, 1954-Oct. 16, 2006

Gresham resident Robert E. Serstock, 51, died Monday, Oct. 16.

A viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 21-22, at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd.

A funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 23, at New Hope Community Church, 11731 S.E. Stevens Road, Portland. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 S.E. Mount Scott Blvd.

Robert was born Nov. 29, 1954, in Minneapolis to Ellsworth I. and Doris (Shay) Serstock. He was raised and educated in Richfield, Minn., where he graduated from Richfield High School. He continued his education at the University of Illinois, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science.

Robert was a flight engineer for the 939th Air Rescue Wing on a HC-130 aircraft for the Portland Air Guard. He was a member of this unit for 14 years.

After 31 years of service, Robert retired from the Air Force in December 2005, having attained the rank of senior master sergeant.

On Aug. 1, 1985, Robert married Cathy DeFreitas in Richfield.

Robert was a history buff and enjoyed flying, mountain climbing, walking, jogging and working on computers. He also enjoyed outdoor sports and exotic cats.

Survivors include his wife of Gresham; son, Jason; daughter, Christina; mother of Richfield; brother, Mark Serstock of Bloomington, Minn.; and sister, Barbara Decker of Edina, Minn.

Patricia S. Winkler

Jan. 25, 1937-Oct. 14, 2006

Longtime Gresham resident Patricia S. Winkler, 69, died Saturday, Oct. 14, in Gresham. A service was held.

She was born Jan. 25, 1937, in Portland to Glen and Bernice Darnall.

Survivors include her sons, Greg Winkler of Gresham and Steven Winkler of Fairview; daughter, Kelly Gilgan of Hillsboro; and seven grandchildren.
