County renames 207th Avenue

FAIRVIEW - The Multnomah County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the renaming of 207th Avenue.

'We're all in favor of it,' said Chairwoman Diane Linn.

Oregon Department of Transportation Officials will replace the 207th Avenue signs with new markers that read Fairview Parkway.

Robert Maestre, deputy director of community services for Multnomah County, said the name change had been in the works for a number of years, but funding was now available.

Fairview City Councilor Ken Quinby told the commissioners the name change was a bone of contention four years ago when he ran against Mike Weatherby for the mayor's seat.

However, he now supports the name change and said the biggest selling point for it is that the road curves as it comes off of Interstate 84, and does not actually end at 207th.

'The mayor of Fairview calls me regularly on this issue, and I'm real thrilled about voting for it,' said Commissioner Lonnie Roberts.
