David Douglas stays alive with late goal

BOYS SOCCER - Denis Lisac scores tying goal on penalty shot

The David Douglas boys soccer team got a tying goal from an unlikely source to earn a much-needed 1-1 deadlock against Centennial on Tuesday, Oct. 24.

Trailing 1-0, the Scots drew a penalty shot with 7:18 to play. Douglas coach Rick Johnston called on his goalie Denis Lisac to make the important kick, and the senior came through with a blast into the bottom right corner.

'I put a lot of effort into those kicks, because you never know how many chances you're going to get in a game,' Lisac said.

The Scots' senior played forward through most of the regular season.

Picking up a point in the standings, allowed Douglas (4-7-3) to pull even with Gresham for the fifth and final state playoff berth.

Centennial moved in front late in the first half when Roberto Farfan sent a pass across the mouth of the goal, and teammate J.J. Johnson deflected it into the side of the net before Lisac could react.

The Eagles (6-6-2) are the league's No. 4 playoff seed.
