CROSS COUNTRY - Central Catholic wins district meet by 50 points
SANDY - The Reynolds boys cross country team used a full team effort to claim the No. 2 spot to state at the Mount Hood Conference district meet Wednesday, Oct. 25.
Reynolds beat David Douglas by 18 points in the race for the final team berth to state. Reynolds provided the winning margin when its No. 4 and 5 racers, Austin Martin and Kevin Wooley beat their Douglas counterparts by wide margins.
'I was just going after any jersey that I saw in front of me,' Martin said. 'I knew the more guys I passed, the better our chances for state.'
Reynolds junior Daniel Vo was the top East County runner, finishing in sixth-place overall.
Central Catholic cruised through the dual-meet season and continued its dominance Wednesday. The Rams filled four of the top five spots, led by race-winner Taylor Morgan, who hit the finish line in 16 minutes, 24.3 seconds.
Morgan and Hood River's Leo Castillo traded leads several times throughout the 5-kilometer course with Castillo charging to the front coming out of the hilly, wooded section of the course. Morgan pulled onto his shoulder and surged in front to stay going into the final loop around a baseball field. He hit the finish line almost 100 meters ahead.
