Local Band: Viva Voce
With a new album titled 'Get Yr Blood Sucked Out,' it should come as no surprise that there's a sinister side to Viva Voce.
What makes this local husband-and-wife duo so compelling is that it meshes so well with an energetic giddiness.
The result is a genuinely skewed but eminently catchy (not to mention captivating) collection of off-kilter indie pop that borrows elements of the Velvet Underground and Yo La Tengo but delivers something unique.
'Get Yr Blood Sucked Out' starts off with the ominous, almost Celtic stomp of 'Believer' and winds through 11 more songs without revisiting any of the same sonic territory.
While hypnotic drone may be the overriding sensibility, in Kevin and Anita Robinson's hands there seem to be infinite variations on that theme. They occasionally throw in a good ol' classic-rock riff or singalong chorus (or hand claps) to keep things interesting and lively.
This is the duo's homecoming show - their last local show was their performance at MusicfestNW just as the album was released, so get tickets early.
