Cross country: Sophomore Galen Rupp became Oregon's seventh Pac-10 champion Saturday, leading the Duck men to their first conference title since 1995. The former Central Catholic High star beat Robert Cheseret of Arizona by more than seven seconds. Mike McGrath, a junior from Lincoln, was 26th, and Kenny Klotz, a freshman from Central Catholic, placed 42nd. … The Portland Pilots swept the West Coast Conference meet, the men winning for the 28th year in a row and the women winning for the fifth straight year and 10th time in the last 11 years. Sophomore Mike Quackenbush won the men's race, with No. 1 runner John Moore and others held out for rest. Pilot women Sifrash Ademe, Bobeya Krishnek and Dana Morgan finished 2-3-4.
Women's soccer: Portland State just missed the four-team Big Sky playoffs, finishing with a 1-0 loss Friday at PGE Park to Sacramento State. … Portland will tune up for the Division I playoffs with a game Saturday at Loyola Marymount. Postseason games start Nov. 10. … Concordia won its seventh straight Cascade Conference title last week and will play host to an NAIA regional Friday and Saturday.
Men's soccer: Concordia beat Albertson 2-1 in the regular-season finale last week to tie the Coyotes for first place in the Cascade Conference and earn a regional berth. Both were 9-3. Mirzet Sacirovic, from Marshall High, had two assists in the key win. … Portland (8-7-2) wraps up its season at Santa Clara on Friday and at Saint Mary's on Sunday. The Pilots beat No. 16 San Francisco 2-1 and No. 23 Washington 2-1 last weekend at Merlo Field.
Volleyball: Portland State (10-2 Big Sky) is one game behind first-place Sacramento State (11-1) with four matches left in the regular season. The Vikings beat visiting Sac State in three games last week to split their two-game series. PSU plays Thursday at Northern Arizona and Saturday at Northern Colorado.
