Reading through the voter's pamphlet and filling in the appropriate bubbles may be the most important part of voting, but none of that does any good unless your ballot actually arrives at the Washington County Elections Office on time.

To ensure your mail-in vote gets counted, it's best to put it in your mailbox the Friday before Election Day. Ballots must arrive at the elections office by 8 p.m. on Nov. 7. If your postal carrier picks it up on Monday morning, it should still get there on time - but if you don't want to take chances, you can deposit your ballot at one of several drop-off sites.

Forest Grove and Gaston residents can drop their ballots off at the city's police department office, 2102 Pacific Ave.

Voters in Cornelius can take their ballots to the Cornelius Library, 1355 N. Barlow St. The Banks Library on 111 Market St. is also a destination spot for ballots.

Elections officials will be on hand on Election Day at each of these sites accepting ballots until 8 p.m. - and not a second later.
