Banks will have one representative at the OSAA 4A State Cross Country Championships in Eugene this weekend after Kelsey Taylor nabbed a sixth-place finish at the Cowapa district meet last Wednesday.
Taylor, a sophomore, just missed out on a Top 5 finish at the district meet, taking sixth place in 22:32. Banks teammates Kaula Wall and Alicia Reaser finished ninth and 10th, respectively, but it was not quite enough to earn the Lady Braves a team invite to the state meet.
The top two teams at districts get the nod for states, and Banks finished just seven points out of second place. Beyond that, the top four unattached runners get to make the trip to Eugene, and Taylor's finish was good enough to punch her ticket.
'Kelsey started this year as our top runner, improving by about two minutes over her district time from last year,' said Banks head coach Rob Frank. 'She has placed in the top few girls in all our meets this year.'
Taylor and most of her teammates will get another crack at states next year, since Wall is the only senior on this year's girls varsity team.
