Boys race their way to XC state championships

Prettyman claims Capital Conference District Championship

LaSalle High School snuck away with the Capital Conference District title, but Estacada was right behind them with second place and a trip to Saturday's state championship at Lane Community College in Eugene.

Estacada's Rob Prettyman didn't run his fastest 5K of the year, but was fast enough, by three seconds, to win the individual league championship. Prettyman finished the race in 16:24.

Prettyman was followed by Gladstone's Matt McCrary, but it there were a lot of LaSalle's red and white and Estacada's green and white following close behind. The 10 scorers for each team finished in the top 14 of the field. Unofficially, LaSalle finished with 33 points and Estacada had 39.

Kyle Marcus (16:56) and Ivan Gongora (16:57) finished seventh and eighth for the Rangers. Gilmer Gongora (17:05) and Troy Prettyman (17:16) placed 10th and 13th. Kellyn Gardelius (17:30) came in 17th and Cory Marcus (18:27) crossed the line in 26th.

Three girls raced in the district race for Estacada. Meagan Lunday (23:45) finished 23rd, while Reice Bennett (24:11) and Taylor McCarty (26:43) placed 26th and 38th.

The state cross country meet begins at noon for Estacada's boys on Nov. 4.
