Gambling parlor robbed at gunpoint in Clackamas

A suspect was immediately apprehended in connection with the early Monday morning robbery of Maddy's Deli at 10405 S.E. 82nd Drive in Clackamas.

Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested Donald Joseph Reichardt Aug. 8 as he left the area in his 1999 Dodge Dakota pickup, finding a ski mask, gloves and two handguns on him.

There were a couple of patrons who were in the gambling parlor, according to CCSO Sgt. James Rhodes, when Reichhardt, 36, showed his weapon to the store employee and demanded money just before 1:15 a.m. Rhodes said the patrons didn't even notice because Reichardt was acting alone in non-takeover-style robbery.

The employee immediately called 9-1-1, and by 1:17 a.m., police overtook Reichardt, whose car and features matched the description given by the employee. In a subsequent interview, Reichardt admitted to his involvement in the robbery, police report.

Rhodes credited the 'especially diligent work of a seasoned officer who's aware of the neighborhood' in making the arrest in an area that CCSO commits extra resources to patrolling.

'I'm just very proud of our deputies for getting a very bad man off the street,' Rhodes said.

Reichardt is being held in the Clackamas County Jail with a $250,000 bail for robbery, unlawful possession of two firearms and unlawful use of a weapon, which would qualify as Measure 11 offenses. At an arraignment later on Monday, Clackamas County Circuit Court Judge Eve L. Miller set a preliminary hearing for Aug. 15 at 3 p.m.
