Songs of the season

Holiday tunes on tap in early December

"Magnificent in D"

The 50-member Oregon Chorale will be joined this year by the Pacific University Chamber Singers for C.P.E. Bach's "Magnificant in D," an exciting work by one of J.S. Bach's most famous and able sons.

Other works of the season will include Peter Cornelius's "Die Konige."

The concert is at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, in Pacific University's Taylor-Meade Performing Arts Center and at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 447 SE 3rd Avenue, Hillsboro.

'Goodwill to All'

The Portland Gay Men's chorus will perform their holiday program, "Goodwill To All" as a fundraiser for Forest Grove PFLAG (Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays).

The concert will be held at the Forest Grove United Church of Christ (UCC), 2032 College Way, at 7 p.m., on Dec. 2.

Tickets are $10 general admission, $5 for students (K-12) and seniors. Nobody will be turned away for lack of funds. Tickets are available at the UCC office window 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Trail Band

In what's become a holiday tradition, the Trail Band will perform its 12th annual Christmas show in Forest Grove.

The band's unique eight-piece ensemble plays a variety of instruments including guitar, violin, and mandolin, hammer dulcimer, string bass, electric bass, tuba, pennywhistle, recorder, flageolet, cornet, flugelhorn, tenor horn, trombone, banjo, keyboard, drums, saxophone, spoons and bones.

The group's family-oriented repertoire includes music from many cultures and lands, some featuring odd-sounding, funny looking instruments.

The show is reminiscent of the parlor orchestras and town square brass bands of the last century. It includes humorous stories from holidays past and features two special guests, Linda Hornbuckle and Scott Parker as 'Harold.'

The Trail Band will perform Wednesday, Dec. 6 at p.m. at Forest Grove High School Auditorium. The event benefits the Education Foundation of Forest Grove.

Tickets are $14 for adults and $10 for children under age 12. Advance tickets can be purchased at Drew and Buehler Financial Services, 1930 Pacific Ave., Forest Grove, or at the Forest Grove School District, 1728 Main St. For more information, call Susan at 503-357-7060.
