Police investigate apparent transient's death
Portland police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found early Tuesday, Dec. 5, near a transient camp.
Acting on an anonymous tip phoned in at 6:40 a.m., police found the body near railroad tracks in the 18000 block of Northeast Sandy Boulevard, said Sgt. Brian Schmautz, Portland police spokesman.
The body is of a Caucasian man in his mid-30s to early 40s who appears to be transient.
There were no obvious signs of trauma. Because officers couldn't determine whether the man had been the victim of a crime, homicide detectives are investigating the case as a suspicious death, Schmautz said. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 6.
