A Gales Creek man was found dead Nov. 26 on Highway 6 about two miles west of Banks.
Oregon State Police determined that Daniel Shane Van Valkenburg, 44, was westbound on Highway 6 when his 1986 Mazda pickup drifted off the right side of the highway.
The pickup continued into a field and crashed into a tree 15 feet off the highway.
Oregon State Police spokesman Lt. Gregg Hastings said that the crash is not being investigated as a crime since it involved only one party.
Hastings said the cause of the crash at this time is unknown.
'It could have been fatigue or some kind of impairment or fatigue caused by some form of impairment but at this point in time we don't know for sure,' Hastings said.
Toxicology tests have been sent but the results will not be available for 7-8 weeks.
Van Valkenburg was not wearing a seat belt, but Hastings said it was impossible to tell whether that contributed to his death, as the impact was 'pretty significant.'
