Thirteen Rangers placed in the 2006 Ranger Classic wrestling tournament Friday at Estacada High School.

Senior Josh Stalcup led the varsity team to a tournament championship. Ten varsity wrestlers placed first to fifth. Three junior varsity wrestlers placed in the 16-team varsity tournament.

The Rangers won with 190.5 points. Madras followed with 169.5, and Tillamook claimed third with 164.

'I was really happy-we had a lot of thirds and fourths,' said EHS coach Heath Stalcup. 'It's a tough tournament. First of the year, I'm really happy.'

Stalcup, wrestling at 160 pounds in a weight class laced with state placers, received a bye in the first round before pinning Culver's Tyler Warren in 1:19, beating LaGrande's DJ May by disqualification and pinning Madras' Spud Smith in the finals in 1:47.

Andrew Worthington (119) and Greg Locke (189) each placed second in their weight classes with a 3-1 record. Sammy Stafford (112) and Danny Cox (145) finished in third place. Donovan Powers (103), Nathan Teal (125) and Jonathan Floyd (130) placed fourth. Joe Boyd (215) placed fifth.

For the junior varsity team, Craig Morgan (112) finished in fourth place, Dan Burton (145) placed fifth and Garret Heinetz (103) came in sixth.
