Style Obsession, a European-styled boutique with offerings for the home and body, is finding its niche in a Lake Grove store now loaded with clothing, housewares and holiday fare.

Owned by England-born Tania Thompson, the shop is located in Lake Grove near Boones Ferry Road's intersection with Bryant Road in the plaza that houses Aaron Brothers frame shop.

A retailer for most of her life, Thompson is a Lake Oswego resident who recently closed a stop in Bend, bringing business closer to home.

Her Lake Oswego boutique offers a mix of fashions from Paris, Spain, Canada and the U.S. that make for an urban yet worldly design.

'I like things that are classic and sophisticated but I like things to have a little edge to them,' Thompson said.

Her current selection in fashion includes handbags from the Betsey Johnson line, the vegan line Matt and Nat, and clothing from Paramita in Spain, Parasuco in Canada, Look from London, Love This Life from California and Gwen Stefani's designs in clothes and shoes.

Other fashion brands include Cosabella underwear, Skinny Mini apparel and True Meaning jackets. Numerous accessories are also on hand, as well as clothing from Emily the Strange - the cat-obsessed styles featuring the cartoon teen.

'It's so funny because Emily is supposed to be a 13-year-old girl but my customers who buy Emily are anywhere from 13 to 60,' Thompson said.

She said Style Obsession aims to dress those unique tastes with reasonable prices.

Pointing to Parasuco embroidered jeans, Thompson said, 'It's got the look and feel of the custom lines that cost $400 to $600 but they cost under $200.'

Style Obsession also carries housewares and accessories with the same fashion flare.

Currently available is a selection of ornaments and Christmas décor. Year-round offerings include hand-painted drinking glasses, flatware, cloth napkins and glass-glitter products imported from Germany.

Central to their display are enormous house candles made with beeswax and paraffin that will burn for up to 700 hours.

'I have sold these candles to everyone from clergymen to people who refuse to burn them and just want the decoration,' said Thompson.

Designer candles are also available, along with upbeat greeting cards for local shoppers on the go in Lake Grove.

Style Obsession, 16146 Boones Ferry Road, is open from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday or by appointment, 503-636-0116. Visit the Web site at
