Lightweights pace Reynolds past Barlow 39-25
WRESTLING - Raiders finish with four pins in season opener
The Reynolds wrestling team set the tone early and was never challenged during a 39-25 dual-meet win at Barlow to start the Mount Hood Conference season Thursday night.
The Raiders won the first four bouts of the night, including pins by Alix Vang at 103 pounds and Frank Tran at 112 to build a commanding 20-0 lead.
'It feels great to come out with a lot of pins,' Tran said. 'That's how you win matches by picking up all those extra points.'
The Bruins closed to within 20-12 halfway through the meet when John Tate (140) scored a late reversal to secure a hard-fought 5-2 decision.
Reynolds answered with back-to-back pins by Kyle Rolfe (145) and Terrell Henderson (152) in the next two bouts. Rolfe needed just 49 seconds to put away his opponent - the quickest fall of the night.
The Raiders won eight of the 14 weight classes, finishing with four pins and three majority decisions.
In other MHC action, Hood River picked up six first-round pins to blow out Sandy 62-16. J.J. Johnson had the quickest fall, needing just 56 seconds to end his 171-pound bout. David Douglas knocked off Centennial 45-22.
