Deshanae Norman was among the Mustang Track Club athletes who had amazing performances at the Junior Olympic National Track and Field Championships from July 28 to 31 in Wichita, Kan. The 7 year old placed eighth in the long jump, while also setting a personal record of 1:16.96 seconds in the 400-meter event, which would have broken the state age-group record of 1:19.8 if the championship had been in Oregon.

Incoming McLoughlin Elementary third grader Lily Trimble came in 16th place in the high jump with a 1.1-meter clearance, which is the same height at which she won regionals.

Ben Scheible, 10, was 19th in the triathlon, setting a personal record of 3-11-1/4 in the high jump.

Although having just graduated from Milwaukie High School, Kaitlin Doyle continued to set personal records in the discus, throwing 135-2 at the national championships. Doyle set a school record heave of 125-9 at the 16-team Sandy Invitational Track and Field Meet in April, erasing a 122-3-1/2 mark that had stood since 1978.
