Centennial wins defensive battle vs. Gresham
MHC GIRLS HOOPS - Reynolds gets revenge against Sunset
The Centennial girls basketball team earned a tight 32-27 win during a defensive showdown at Gresham on Tuesday night.
Clinging to a late 29-25 lead, Centennial's Tracy Smith sealed the victory by racing away from Gresham's defense and hitting a layin in the closing minutes. The win has helped the Eagles (2-1) reach their season win total from last year before the Christmas Break.
Emily Anderson scored a team-high 14 points for the Eagles and was active all night under the basket. Stacie Dillingham gave Centennial a seven-point lead after hitting a 3-pointer late in the third period. But Gresham's Amiee Frutchey gave the Gophers hope in the fourth period by hitting back-to-back shots to close the gap to just two points.
That was as close as the Gophers would get.
In other girls action, Reynolds came back from a nine-point second half deficit to beat Sunset 60-56 in a nonleague game. The Apollos knocked Reynolds out of the playoffs last season.
