Man robs Washington Square jewelry store

The thief may have taken more than $100,000 worth of merchandise from Whitehall Jewelers Co.

TIGARD - A man robbed the Washington Square Whitehall Jewelers Co. store Tuesday with the initial loss placed at more than $100,000.

A man entered the store at about 6:50 p.m. and asked an employee to show him some watches.

'The suspect demanded that the employee give him all the items (he could) from a display area,' said Jim Wolf, Tigard police public information officer. 'Although no weapon was seen, the suspect pointed to his waistband when speaking to the store employee.

'The suspect placed a large brown bag on the counter and told the employee to put the items inside. Another employee working in the area also assisted in removing items from a display case.'

After a short time, the suspect retrieved the bag and left the store. Security and police were then notified. Upon arrival, police checked the entire area, but no one matching the description was located.

The suspect was described as an adult male with dark skin. He appeared to have a mustache and sideburns, according to Wolf.

At the time of the incident, the suspect was wearing a black jacket with a hood along with dark-colored pants.

If anyone has information or possibly observed the suspect, please contact Tigard police detective Kevin Dresser at 503-718-2576.
