UPDATE • North Portland resident becomes city's 16th homicide this year
Portland homicide detectives are investigating the shooting death of 19-year-old Vinesh Ram Prasad, whose body was found late Wednesday night in the street near Northeast Sandy Boulevard and 119th Avenue.
Police said Prasad, a North Portland resident, was the city's 16th homicide this year, and the sixth suspected gang-related death.
The state medical examiner said Prasad died of a gunshot wound to the chest.
Detectives would like to talk with anyone with information about the shooting or about Prasad's activities in the 48 hours prior to his death.
Officers from the North Precinct were called at about 11:45 p.m. Aug. 10 to the area after gunshots were heard. They discovered the wounded man and called for an ambulance. The man died shortly after medical crews arrived.
The city's Gang Enforcement Team is assisting with the investigation.
