'Black Panthers 1968'

Tuesday, Jan. 4-Feb. 20, Douglas F. Cooley Memorial Art Gallery, Reed College

Reed College celebrates Black History Month with photographs by Ruth-Marion Baruch and Pirkle Jones. The photos, taken in 1968 in and around the Oakland, Calif., headquarters of the organization, contrast with mass media images of the time, which depicted the Panthers as thugs and dangerous subversives.
