Horses kick kills Portland Meadows trainer


A woman training horses at Portland Meadows died Thursday morning when she was kicked in the head by a horse.

Portland Fire and Rescue said Charlynn Taketa was kicked at about 7:13 a.m. Aug. 11 at the racetrack at 1001 N. Schmeer St. The accident happened in the track's washing area outside the stables.

The woman's husband, Jerry Taketa, also a horse trainer, was there when the horse kicked her and provided aid.

Portland Fire paramedic/EMTs administered CPR to the victim, but were unable to revive her.
