Peter Fenton presents 'Eyeing the Flash: The Education of a Carnival Con Artist.' The memoir, also a cautionary tale, details his teen years in the carnival underworld during the 1960s. Fenton, a former National Enquirer reporter, is also the author of 'Truth or Tabloid?'

Homegrown words

Annie Bloom's Books celebrates the birthday of the late Oregon poet William Stafford, the U.S. poet laureate in 1970 and a longtime professor at Lewis & Clark College. The event will be hosted by Judith Barrington with featured guest poets and community members reading their favorite Stafford poems.

The event begins at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, at Annie Bloom's Books, 7834 S.W. Capitol Highway.
