It's a slump: Portland is 1-4-1-1 since Christmas break, including five winless home games, after going -8-1-1 in its previous 10 home games.

No offense: Missing injured Dan Da Silva, its leading goal scorer, Winter Hawks scored four goals in losing three games last weekend. Goalie Krister Toews can't win every game by himself.

What's new: Acquisitions of Darrel May and Brad Priestlay bring gritty two-way players who can supposedly shore up forward defense.

Where from here: Portland (19-18-4-1) plays Seattle at 7 p.m. Friday in the Rose Garden before hitting the road for Everett, Kamloops and Prince George.
