Events calendar for Aug. 13

SUNDAY, AUG. 14

Adult Group Bike Ride - 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Main City Park, 219 S. Main Ave. This series of free, moderately paced adult group bicycle rides will explore the area between Gresham, Troutdale and the Sandy River as well as East Portland. Bike rides range from 15 to 25 miles. The group will travel along at around 13-15 mph and stop for coffee, bakery sweets or ice cream somewhere along the route. Riders are encouraged to arrive 10 minutes early; the group leaves at 10 a.m. sharp from Gresham's Main City Park. For more information, call Bud Rice at 503-667-0683.

Animal Activities at Blue Lake - 1 to 5 p.m., Blue Lake Regional Park, 20500 N.E. Marine Drive, Fairview. Come see what creatures visit a garden and how they help it grow. Find animal footprints, see what brings butterflies and how to help birds eat better. Enjoy activities such as critter rock painting, animal origami and wildlife journaling. For ages three and up; adult supervision is required. Free program. Parking $5 for cars, $7 for buses and free for bicycles and pedestrians. Located next to the water spray ground inside Blue Lake Regional Park. This is a drop-in program; no registration is necessary.

Vegetarian Cooking Class - 2 to 4 p.m., Seventh-day Adventist Church, Fellowship Hall, 223 S.E. Cleveland Ave. Join in for an afternoon of preparing healthy, tasty meals, recipe sharing, shopping help, cooking tips and techniques. This is an ongoing class held every second Sunday of the month.

Midweek Walk - 12:05 p.m., Gresham City Hall, 1333 N.W. Eastman Parkway. Monthly Midweek Walks start at 12:10 p.m. sharp and cover a couple of miles at a brisk pace suitable for business attire. Contact Sandra Doubleday at 503-618-2816.

'Fight With Elegance' Benefit Concert and Fashion Show - 4 p.m., Duke's Country Bar and Grill, 14601 N.E. Division St., Portland. This fundraiser, hosted by Duke's and Elegantly Funky clothing boutique of Gresham, raises money to help women and men from the community pay for mammograms, which are critical for the early detection of breast cancer. The fashion show starts at 6 p.m., and music starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at Elegantly Funky or at fightwithelegance.org. Call 503-665-9545 for information.
