College news for Aug. 13

Carroll College

Emily Renee Slayton of Gresham graduated from Carroll College in Helena, Mont., on May 7, receiving her bachelor's degrees with distinction in health sciences and Spanish and a minor in biology.

Emily had a grade-point average of 3.71 and was on the dean's list for six of eight semesters.

In addition, her sister Cassandra Marie Slayton was named to Carroll College's 2011 spring semester dean's list for earning at least a 3.5 GPA.

Emily and Cassandra are the daughters of Brad and Mindy Slayton. They are alumnae of Gresham High School: Emily graduated in 2007 and Cassandra graduated in 2009.

Hartwick College

Hartwick College first-year student Lily Gall was named to the spring-term dean's list at Hartwick College in Oneonta, N.Y.

Gall is the daughter of Barbara Burton-Gall and Michael Gall of East Portland. She hasn't declared a major.

Western Governors University

Lori Colt of East Portland received her bachelor's degree from Western Governors University, a nonprofit online university.

Kaplan University

The following local students graduated from Kaplan University in Chicago on Aug. 6: Kristel Schmidt of Gresham, bachelor's degree in accounting; and Mariya Parvankin of Gresham, bachelor's degree in legal studies.

Mercer University

Erica Vrvilo of Gresham received a bachelor's degree in psychology, cum laude, from the College of Liberal Arts at Mercer University in Macon, Ga., during the May commencement.
