Golf league playoffs see 8 teams eliminated
Two matches go to sudden death, some big upsets recorded on Monday,Tuesday
The first round of the St. Helens Men's Club Summer League playoffs saw eight teams eliminated and eight advance to the second round.
Paulson Printing and Yarbor Racing won on Monday night to earn a spot in that division playoffs. Paulson beat Emmert Motors, 5.5-2.5, while Yarbor and Shank-A-Potamuses tied 4-4 and held a sudden death playoff.
On Monday night, top seed Yarbor Racing eliminated No. 8 seed Semling's Construction. The No. 3 seed Paulson Printing downed No. 6 Kozy Korner. Emmert Motors upset the No. 2 seed, The Mower Shed, and No. 5 Shank-A-Potamuses eliminated No. 4 Eaton's Tires.
The biggest upset of the first round came on Tuesday night when No. 8 Mt. View Electric defeated league points leader Captain Morgan on the Rocks. The Captain Morgan team had tallied 68 points in the regular season, far more than any other team. Mt. View had scored just 33 and slipped into the No. 8 slot by just half a point. Mt. View posted a 7-1 win to advance, eliminating Captain Morgan.
No. 3 Johnny's Tavern advanced with a win over Columbia River Fire and Rescue, but the other four teams went to a sudden-death playoff. No. 2 Kathy's Kreative Memories eliminated Stewart Enterprises and the Pastime Tavern eliminated the St. Helens IGA Market.
Pairings this week on Monday are Yarbor Racing vs. Shank-a-Potamuses and Paulson Printing vs. Emmert Motors. On Tuesday, Mt. View faces Pastime Tavern and Kathy's Kreative Memories takes on Johnny's Tavern.
