Estacada School Board fills vacant District 4 seat
Rick Mudrow brings years of coaching experience to the board
Ever since Sherri Graham resigned from her position on the school board July 14, the district has been waiting to fill the spot. On Wednesday night, they found their man in long-time high school soccer coach Rick Mudrow.
At the school board meeting that night, Mudrow and one other applicant appeared before the board to interview for the position. Board Chairman Breen was impressed.
'Rick brings a lot to the table -- he's a really sharp guy who has been super involved in our schools,' Breen said.
During the 20 years Mudrow has been living in the district, he's spent nine years as the head coach of Estacada High School's girls soccer team. Aside from his involvement at the high school, however, Mudrow has a vested interest in every level of schooling within Estacada.
'I've got a pocketful of grandkids at every level,' Mudrow said, 'and I'm looking forward to the opportunity to get involved here.'
One way he has already been involved is with his presence at school board meetings even before being chosen for the position. Mudrow has attended the meetings for the last eight months as nothing more than a way to stay connected.
Despite the fact that he is familiar with the board and its workings, however, Mudrow isn't expecting to make a big splash on the board anytime soon.
'At the beginning, I'm going to be satisfied just listening and getting acclimated to the process of how things work here,' he said.
The school board meets on the second Wednesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. in the high school choir room.
