The best-kept secret in town
Like a lot of people, I sort of knew in the back of my mind that you could have breakfast or lunch at the Estacada Community Center, depending on the day of the week. But I never really paid any attention to the notices in the newspaper.
Without actually thinking about it, I guess I thought it was just for seniors or just for this segment of the population or that segment of the population, or just for special events and parties, but not for everyone, everyday.
So here's what I discovered:
The Estacada Community Center serves tasty breakfasts and lunches at absolutely the best prices in town, and they are open for business to everyone. The prices are so low that they're unbelievable. Today I had the Tuesday $2 lunch special (salad, soup, a huge piece of watermelon, cookies for dessert, plus milk and coffee to drink). Prices vary somewhat on different days.
OK, I may be the only person in town who didn't know about this, but I'm amazed that more people don't take advantage of this service. Lunch is at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; breakfast is one day a week only at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
If you want to, you can come early or hang around after you eat for a game of table tennis, stay for bingo after lunch on Tuesdays and Fridays, or stay and play dominoes after lunch on Mondays and Thursdays.
Even if you don't eat out a lot, or if you have a favorite restaurant that you usually go to, once in a while you can still treat yourself - and your pocketbook - to a great deal on breakfast or lunch at our own 'community café.'
Editor's note: The Estacada Community Center is at 200 S.W. Clubhouse Drive. Call 503-630-7454 for more information.
