Robert James Rosenboom Sr.

Feb. 28, 1935-Aug. 15, 2011

Gresham resident Robert James Rosenboom Sr. died Monday, Aug. 15. He was 76.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, at Portland Christian Center, 5700 S.W. Dosch Road, Portland. Private burial will be at Lincoln Memorial Park in Portland.

Robert was born Feb. 28, 1935, in Langdon, Mo., to Johann and Georgia (Polson) Rosenboom.

Robert was a farmer. He enjoyed working with John Deere Tractors and even collected John Deere model tractors and memorabilia. He became an electrician and worked for Tice Electric. Robert was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the National Electrical Contractors Association.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and by two grandsons.

Survivors include his wife, Delores; daughters, Connie Stuart of Cascade Locks, Cindy Kuykendall of Canton, Texas, and Rebekah Beiersdorf of Gresham; son, Bob Rosenboom Jr. of Gresham; brother, Arnold Rosenboom of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Ethiopia Missions in care of Portland Christian Center, 5700 S.W. Dosch Road, Portland, 97239.

Thomas B. Frielink

April 26, 1921-Aug. 11, 2011

Gresham resident Thomas B. Frielink, 90, died Thursday, Aug. 11, in Portland.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, at St. Henry Catholic Church, 346 N.W. First St.

Tom was born April 26, 1921, in Detroit, Mich., to William and Bernice Frielink. He grew up in Detroit and graduated from the University of Detroit. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II from 1942-44.

In 1944, he married Helen Williams in Washington, D.C.

Tom was president of the western region for Continental Baking Co. He attended St. Henry Catholic Church.

His son, Tom Frielink, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Jim Frielink of Sandy and David Frielink of Hillsboro; daughter, Susan Morgan of Boring; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Betty Lea Blakley

Nov. 27, 1923-Aug. 14, 2011

Gresham resident Betty Lea Blakley died Sunday, Aug. 14. She was 87.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd.

Betty was born Nov. 27, 1923, in St. Edward, Neb., to Eldon and Anna Peterson. Betty moved to Oregon with her parents at a young age.

In 1946, she married Carl Blakley in Oregon.

Betty spent most of her career as a bookkeeper and office manager for auto dealerships and Edgefield Lodge.

Betty enjoyed reading and traveling with her husband in their motor home. She was an avid Trail Blazers fan. She would give advice, but only when asked for, and could keep a secret for any of her friends or family.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Lana Pledger; sister, Anna Mae; and brother, Eldon.

Survivors include her children, Linda Woosley of Gresham, Karen Krager of Gresham and Les Blakley of Mead, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Evelyn Ida Ulrich

Dec. 10, 1921-Aug. 13, 2011

Gresham resident Evelyn Ida Ulrich died Saturday, Aug. 13. She was 89.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 39901 Pleasant St., Sandy. Viewing hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at Sandy Funeral Home, 39551 Pleasant St., Sandy, and at noon Friday, Aug. 19, at the church prior to the service.

Evelyn was born Dec. 10, 1921, in Deshler, Neb., to Ernst and Emelia (Geisler) Wagner. Evelyn spent her early childhood in the Midwest. She moved with her family to Oregon in 1933 and attended West Gresham Grade School and Gresham High School, graduating in 1941.

On Aug. 30, 1942, she married Richard Robert William Ulrich in Vancouver, Wash. They settled in Gresham and started their family.

Evelyn loved children and enjoyed bowling. She worked for more than 20 years at Eastmont Lanes in Gresham, taking care of children while their parents were bowling. She was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and enjoyed quilting for Lutheran World Relief. Both Evelyn and Richard were avid rock hounds and spent many days in Eastern Oregon and Nevada searching for 'treasures.'

Richard preceded her in death in 2010.

Survivors include her sons, Ron Ulrich of Sandy and Dan Ulrich of Culver; daughter, Lola Flisram of Damascus; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
