Joan Young, longtime director of the Milwaukie Center, announced her retirement last week.
Young's tenure with Clackamas County dates back more than 21 years-coinciding with the formation of the North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District.
She is credited with expanding outreach to area seniors through her work at the Milwaukie Center. The center provides social and recreational services to thousands of seniors throughout the region. Foremost among the programs is the Meals on Wheels program, which has garnered regional acclaim.
Young's retirement is effective June 29. Deputy Director Dave Miletich will serve as interim Milwaukie Center director until a permanent replacement is hired.
'Joan's accomplishments have been significant and her passion for helping older adults has touched thousands of people and affected their lives in a very positive way,' said Gary Barth, director of NCPRD.
'I cherish the years, months and days of my tenure at the Milwaukie Center and with (NCPRD),' Young wrote in a letter to staff. 'I can sincerely say I have had the privilege of working with incredibly dedicated staff and volunteers.'
