Parker Road sale to city bolsters school district budget
The city of West Linn's purchase of the Parker Road ball park property near Tanner Creek Park was finalized last April. Formerly owned by the West Linn-Wilsonville School District, the $1.2 million sale will help to bolster the school district's budget for the 2012-13 school year, which remains trim but keeps programs whole.
The 7.5 acres of land originally existed outside of city limits and was first purchased by the school district for $295,000 with capital bond proceeds in the early 1990s. Voters approved annexation of the property to the city in the May 2010 election. At that time, the city was looking at the property for a new police station or even co-locating the police station and a new aquatic center, but sights shifted to siting the station in the Willamette neighborhood on the corner of Eighth Avenue and 13th Street. Voters passed a November 2011 bond to fund the station, allowing the city council to begin working on making an aquatic center at the Parker Road property a reality.
