Both brought under control within 10 minutes
Portland Fire and Rescue responded to two fires in commercial buildings Sunday evening.
The first fire was reported in the laundry room at the All Star Fitness facility, 2831 S.W. Barbur Blvd. When firefighters reached the room, they found the blaze had been almost completely extinguished by the sprinkler system. It was brought completely under control within 10 minutes. The preliminary investigation suggests it started in a clothes dryer.
The second fire was reported in a boarded-up building at Southeast 122nd and Stark. After removing boards from windows to enter the building, the fire was brought under control in eight minutes. The cause is under investigation.
