PLASTIC BIRDS AMID HARDY PLANTS
A flock of 29 flamingos at 7414 S.E. 13th Avenue piques the interest of passersby.
The plastic birds - in hues of purple, white, gray and blue - were installed at the home of Dr. Cathy Moonshine, a licensed clinical psychologist and avid gardener, who belongs to the Hardy Plant Society.
'My garden is all planted in purples, blues, and whites,' she explains. 'Purple is my favorite color.'
During the year, the garden is a showcase of purple iris, tulips, crocuses, and dahlias. Hardy pansies are planted all year long; brilliant blue delphiniums reseed themselves. 'I've lived here eleven years now, and I enjoy adding new blue and purple species to my collection,' she smiles.
Dr. Moonshine is a Clinical Supervision Program Administrator, and knows what makes her happy in the garden. She located the flamingos online, but has also installed many artistic stepping stones from 'Love Art!' in Sellwood. 'They're designated 'Concrete Creations by Carla', and feature butterflies and dragonflies in purple, white, and blue," she remarks.
Cathy also owns two friendly French bulldogs registered as therapy dogs, who serve as 'pet partners' to cheer certain patients. Contact the Delta Society (www.deltasociety.org) for information on various therapy animals. Or, just please yourself by creating your own unique garden collection. It's good therapy to garden outdoors in the sun.
