Jaime El-Khal stands in front of Al-Amir, a booth serving up traditional Lebanese food. El-Khal is the owner and operator of the new farmers market in the parking lot of the Sunnyside Foursquare church on 132nd and Sunnyside Road.
'This is what happened when my husband and I thought it would be fun to open a booth at a farmers market,' El-Khal said. 'We thought, why just have a booth when we could have a whole market.'
The market opened Saturday, June 2, with 38 vendors.
'Next week we will have over 50 vendors and we will keep growing,' El-Khal said.
She eventually wants to get to the market's capacity of 200 vendors.
Local vendors include arts and crafts to fresh, local produce and flowers, as well as specialty treats and food items.
The market continues Saturdays, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Oct. 6.
