Austin Parker named to D-III all-stars

Austin Parker, a Southridge High graduate who just completed his sophomore year as a member of the Saint John's University men's soccer team, was one of four St. John's players selected to the 2012 USA D-III All-Star team that competed in Brazil from May 19-28.

Parker and his USA team went 1-2-1 against top U-22 club teams from Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Beaverton soccer teams headed to West Region tourneys

By winning the recent US Youth Soccer Oregon State Championships, five Beaverton-area soccer teams have qualified to compete in the US Youth Soccer Region IV (West) Championships. Those teams are: In U-16 boys, the Westside Metros Galacticos; in U-18 boys, the Westside Metros Premier; in U-14 girls, the Westside Metros 97 Usonians; in U-17 girls, Tualatin Hills United Ireland; and in U-18 girls, the Westside Metros Fury.

These teams will be among more than 230 top teams from the 14 US Youth Soccer State Associations competing for the regional title June 18-24 at the US Youth Soccer Region IV Championships at Reach 11 Sports Complex in Phoenix.

OGA Golf Club in Woodburn offers free golf to juniors

The OGA Golf Course in Woodburn announced last week that it will offer free golf for Juniors every evening from June through August.

Under the new program, players 17 and younger can play for free after 5:30 p.m. during June, July and August. Each player must have their own set of clubs and proper attire is required. Juniors 12 and under must be supervised.

Westview boys hoop camp ready to tip off

The annual Westview basketball camp is set for two sessions in late June.

For players in grades 3-6, Session 1 is set for 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 18-21 ay Stoller Middle School, and Session 2 for 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 25-28 at Stoller.

For players in grades 7-8, Session I is set for 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 18-21 at Five Oaks Middle School, and Session II for 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 25-28 at Five Oaks.

For players in grades 9-11, the lone session I is set for 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 25-28 at Westview High School.

The camp, led by head coach Pat Coons, his coaches, current and former players, costs $100 per session or $175 for both sessions. Sunset girls hoop camp takes the court in June

The annual Lady Apollo Basketball Camp is set for June 18-21 at Sunset High School.

The camp for players in grades 1-5 will run from 1 to 3 p.m. each day, and the camp for players in grades 6-9 will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. each day.
