Update • Suspect identified as David W. Chilton
Police are looking for a man with a gun that they thought was cornered in a Portland State University parking garage.
Police are looking for David W. Chilton. He is described as a white male in his 50s, with a grey beard, blue eyes and brown hair. He was last seen wearing a dark jacket, rust colored plaid shirt over a green t-shirt, black shoes and a grey baseball cap.
After waiting hours to search the garage, police discovered he was not in there. In the meantime, the streets around the garage were shut down. PSU, St. Mary's Academy and Lincoln High School were all in lockdown
According to police, on June 11 at 10:21 a.m. Central Precinct officers responded to the area of Southwest 12th and Market to assist PSU Public Safety officers. The police officers arrived on scene and learned that a male suspect being contacted by a PSU officer pulled a handgun and pointed it at the PSU officer. The suspect fled the area on foot.
Police officers learned that the suspect was likely contained in a parking garage at Southwest 12th Avenue and Mill Street. The Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) was called to the scene to assist in managing the complex tactical operation.
Police began reopening the streets early Monday afternoon.
