FGHS students grab internships

Irene Cantu and Juan Romero, both Forest Grove High School juniors, have been selected for paid summer internships with the Howard S. Wright company, helping with the high school bond construction. The highly competitive internship program is offered through the Pacific NW Carpenters Institute, and interns are placed with various construction-related firms in the Portland metropolitan area.

As part of the program, the students will spend one day each week in carpentry classes at the Carpenters Institute. They'll spend the other four days working on site at FGHS, where a new science classroom wing, gymnasium and expanded cafeteria are under construction.

Bond Construction Continues On Schedule

Finishing touches are being applied to the Forest Grove School District's new Joseph Gale Elementary School, which will welcome its first class of students in September. The project is part of the $65.3 million bond voters approved in November 2010. The old building is scheduled for demolition during the third week in June, and construction of the landscaping, parking and playfields will continue through the summer.

Work has begun at Forest Grove High School in preparation for the new science classroom wing, gymnasium and expanded cafeteria. The new additional parking lots will be completed by late July. The campus will be closed all summer, allowing for the remodel of the kitchen, commons and administrative office.

In earlier bond work, new baseball and softball fields at the high school were completed, a new cafeteria and bus loop were built at Harvey Clarke Elementary School, and the cafeteria was expanded at Echo Shaw Elementary School.
