The Red Sox knocked off the Phillies 2-1 to win the majors championship game for Gresham Little League on Wednesday night at Main City Park. The Red Sox scored the winning run in the fourth inning when Hunter Hemenway connected for a lead-off double and came home on a sacrifice hit by Tyler Pederson.

The Phillies struck first when Jacob Biesterfield reached on a dropped third strike and came around to score on a throwing error in the second inning. The Red Sox tied the game in their half of the inning when Mike Cleverely and Kaelee Rothe got on with consecutive bunts. Cleverely came home on a wild pitch.

Biesterfield struck out eight batters and surrendered only three hits for the Phillies, while Red Sox pitcher Mehlhaff struck out 18 and gave up only one hit. The Red Sox finished the season with a 23-1 record.

Other members of the championship team are Morgan Barrow, Tyrone Williams, Hunter Johnson, Kyle Shaw, Sebastian Lemus, Blake Houghton and Evan Sanders. Coaches are Craig Hemenway, Jason Trickel and Dave Mehlhaff.

The Gresham Little League minors title game between the Red Sox (American) and Diamondbacks (National) will be played at 6 p.m. Friday in Main City Park.
