Comedy fundraiser planned for officer
A comedy club and police sergeant are teaming to raise money for a longtime Gresham resident and former police officer who recently was paralyzed from the waist down in a motorcycle crash.
Proceeds from the Sunday, Aug. 21, fundraiser at Harvey's Comedy Club will benefit Paul B. Georgioff, 51, of Gresham and his family. The 27-year veteran of the Portland Police Bureau was thrown from his motorcycle on a ride near Lewiston, Idaho, on July 17.
Local stand-up comedian and Portland police Sgt. Willie Halliburton and Barry Kolin, owner of Harvey's Comedy Club, are donating all proceeds from the event, which starts at 7:30 p.m. The comedy club is at 436 N.W. Sixth Ave.
Georgioff is undergoing physical therapy to strengthen his lungs to avoid pneumonia and keep his body moving. His split-level home in Gresham also must be retrofitted to accommodate his wheelchair.
Donations also can be made to the Paul Georgioff Fund at any Wells Fargo Bank branch.
