Members of the Lake Oswego United Methodist Church hosted a reception for Pastor Steven Sprecher to recognize his 40th anniversary as an ordained minister. For the past nine years, Sprecher has served as senior pastor at LOUMC and has been a guiding force in developing the church's Statement of Welcome and Inclusivity as well as enhancing member involvement in community outreach programs.

Sprecher began his ministerial service in 1972 as an associate pastor at the East United Methodist Church in Colorado Springs, Colo. Throughout his career, he has been noted for his humanitarian efforts. During his tenure as United Methodist campus ministerial director at Oregon State University, he served on the Pauling Peace Lecture Committee as well as the Western Jurisdiction Korean Mission Advisory Council. He currently participates on the World Council of Churches Philippines human rights fact-finding mission and has been been instrumental in creating a welcoming and secure environment for those using the transitional shelter apartment at the church.
