Teen volunteers needed

The West Linn Public Library is looking for middle-schoolers and high-schoolers to volunteer at the Summer Reading Program sign-up table.

Teens will be assisting kids and teens who want to sign up for the Summer Reading Program and answering basic questions about the program. One-hour and two-hour time slots are available.

City offers utility assistance program

The city of West Linn offers reduced water, sewer, surface water, street and park maintenance charges for low-income residents. Income limitations are defined by the Department of Health and Human Services Poverty Guidelines. For more information or an application, visit westlinnoregon.gov/finance/utility-billing-1.

Contest features West Linn at night

The West Linn Public Library is hosting a photography contest with the theme of West Linn @ Night.

The winner will be chosen by the community, and the contest is open to all ages. Both color and black and white images are accepted with one entry per person.

Submit the largest size available. Images must be in JPG format by Sunday, July 15, at 6 p.m. The voting period will be through Aug. 1. The grand prize is a professional framing of the winning photo.

Red Cross class offered

The West Linn Parks and Recreation Department is offering the class, "When I'm in Charge."

Designed for youths ages 8 to 11, this two-and-a-half-hour Red Cross course prepares children to respond safely to a variety of situations when direct parent supervision is unavailable.

Participants will role play answering phone and door situations; discuss gun and Internet safety; and discuss personal safety and first aid situations.

Each student receives a participation guide, note pads and a blank emergency phone list. Parents are encouraged to attend the final half hour of class.

The cost of attendance is $34 for residents, and the course will be held at the West Linn Adult Community Center, at 1180 Rosemont Road. Sessions are scheduled for Wednesdays - July 11 or Aug. 1 - from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Reserve picnic space now

West Linn residents can start making picnic reservations for city parks, including Hammerle, Mary S. Young, Sunset, Tanner Creek and Willamette parks.

Park shelters can be reserved through Oct. 31.
