Bigej among Oregons elite in softball

Clackamas senior second baseman Sarah Bigej has been named to the Oregon Class 6A High School Softball All-State First Team.
Clackamas senior pitcher Sam Gutwig and Cavalier junior catcher Vanessa Oakden were named to the second all-state team, along with West Linn junior outfielder Briana Barzola and West Linn freshman Caroline Freiling (designated player/utility).
Class 6A third team selections included: Clackamas senior Jen Behunin (third base), West Linn seniors Caroline MacAusland (pitcher) and Karly LeVeque (infield), and Canby sophomore Gina Bond (infield).
Bigej had a .516 batting average on the 2012 season, with 49 hits in 95 at bats, 38 runs scored and 22 extra base hits, including seven home runs. Bigej was also 16-of-20 on stolen base attempts and she played error-free ball for the Cavaliers' 15 league games.
In Class 5A softball, seniors Breann Morrison and Missy Bottinelli were both second-team all-state selections, Morrison at pitcher and Bottinelli for her play in the outfield.
Both Morrison and Bottinelli excelled with their bats as well as in the pitcher's circle. Morrison had a .418 batting average, with 22 RBI and 14 extra base hits, including six home runs; Bottinelli hit .367, with 25 RBI and 15 extra base hits, including four home runs.
