Pat O'Donnell of Happy Valley and Robert Niger of Eldorado, Calif., qualified for the U.S. Senior Open Championship, turning in the top scores at an Oregon Golf Association Senior Open Sectional Qualifier, held last week at Pumpkin Ridge-Witch Hollow.
O'Donnell shot rounds of 36 and 34, for a 2-under par 70 over the 6,810-yard course, finishing second only to Niger (68: 33 and 35).
Fifty-one golfers took part in the Pumpkin Ridge Sectional, one of 34 sectional qualifiers held around the United States. Professionals and amateurs 50-and-over with a USGA handicap index not exceeding 3.4 were eligible to participate.
The Senior U.S. Open is scheduled July 9-15 at Indianwood Golf and Country Club in Lake Orion, Michigan.
