Parade moves to Pioneer Boulevard

Don't get caught off guard this year: The Sandy Mountain Festival Parade is changing direction and moving to Pioneer Boulevard.

This year's parade begins at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 12, at Bluff Road and travels eastward along Pioneer, ending at Wolf Drive.

As in past years, parade viewers should be prepared to hold their places along the route beginning Tuesday, July 10. Those who wait too long will miss out on the best viewing opportunities.

Parade participants will stage along Strawbridge Parkway and a small portion of Bluff Road. Those streets will close at 3 p.m. and will remain closed until the conclusion of the parade.

Parade director Steve Brown said residents along Strawbridge will be allowed vehicle access to their homes, but they must park off-street during the closure to allow for staging of the parade.

"We appreciate the patience of these residents while we stage the parade," Brown said.

The deadline to submit parade applications is 5 p.m. Thursday, July 5.

For more information on the parade, call Brown at 503-890-6160.
