Violet Isle to close out Music Mondays Aug. 29
- Gresham Outlook - Features
Debut album released last year
Together since 2008, Portland indie progressive pop rockers Violet Isle will be closing out the Music Mondays series from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 29, at the Gresham Center for the Arts Plaza, 401 N.E. Second St.
The band is built around the melodies and chord progressions of lead vocalist and acoustic guitarist Sean Garcia. Nick Gable plays drums, Jordan Clark plays lead guitar, Alva Valencia plucks the bass and Kelly Gable plays keyboards and sings backing vocals.
The somewhat folky band has made quite the splash, earning placement on the Failure to Communicate label's Radiohead tribute album with a cover of 'Lucky.' Meanwhile, Garcia was runner-up in the 2006 Portland Songwriter's Association's Singer-Songwriter of the Year competition.
The band released its debut CD 'I Am Ivy' last year, and it's an arresting blend of simple melodies, thoughtful lyrics and spirited and sometimes complex lead guitar.
